Roses for Valentines Day

Here’s one idea: partnering with a local florist for a discount on flower delivery for customers who order a meal from your food establishment.

Let’s just admit that everyone’s expectations are a slightly lower this Valentine’s Day.

Yes, the pandemic has put something of a damper on the holiday but that doesn’t mean it’s cancelled. No! In fact several restaurants and food service chains have rolled out some ideas that can easily be borrowed if you want to try and put on a Valentine’s Day promotion of your own this year.

Marriage on the menu at the drive thru
Dunkin’ Donutes is giving fans in the New York area the opportunity to win a unique wedding experience. The lucky couple will be married on Friday afternoon in a drive-thru ceremony at the chain’s Town of Wallkill, N.Y. store. In addition, the couple will receive photos of their big day, a gift basket and $500. Afterward, other couples will be permitted to have a drive-through vow renewal or commitment ceremony.

Of course, the contest is in addition to the chain reprising its Valentine-themed menu items such as heart-shaped donuts and Pink Velvet macchiato drinks. So, even if you’re not looking to get married, there’s still a reason to stop by Dunkin’ Donuts this weekend.

Visiting Slider Lovers’ Point
Not to be outdone, White Castle plans to transform its parking lots into a place for couples to have a romantic getaway. In previous years, the hamburger slider chain would transform its locations into full-service restaurants on Valentine’s Day. Couples could book a dining reservation, enjoy a slider meal and sip on champagne in plastic cups. This year, due to social distancing, White Castle will move the party outside to the parking lot where spaces can be reserved and carhops will provide guests with service for their meals. They’re calling the outdoor scene, “Slider Lovers’ Point.”

Valentine’s Day With … The Whole Family!
This year, lots of couples may find themselves stuck at home with the kids instead of being able to go out on the town. This makes McAlister’s Deli especially prescient with the chain’s ‘Kids Eat Free On Valentine’s Day’ special. While they’ve done it in previous years, this does appear to be the first time they are allowing kids-eat-free specials to be ordered online.

Get a Deal On Flowers
From now through Saturday, Red Lobster rewards members who order takeout or delivery meals can receive 15 percent off their order at 1-800-FLOWERS. The chain will send a link that can be used to redeem the deal at the flower delivery service. This is the type of promo that can easily be replicated if a restaurant partners with a local florist.

Contest to Win Couples’ Therapy
So, maybe you and your loved one are the type who argue each Valentine’s Day over who gets to eat the last piece of dessert. If so, you’re in luck this year! Recognizing that staying at home together can be tough on relationships, Philadelphia Cream Cheese is having a contest where the food brand is giving away $150 to select participants to go towards a one-hour session with a couple’s therapist. Maybe it’s not the most romantic prize but if you promote something similar at your small business for Valentine’s Day, most couples will presumably see the humor in it.

Valentine’s Day Meal Box
One restaurant in the Chicago area, Avli Taverna, decided to put together a chic prix fixe menu for Valentine’s Day. Customers can order delivery and receive a choice of entrée, homemade truffles, a holiday card and an alcoholic “Cocktail Gram” drink.

It’s basically a Valentine’s Day in a box. Something so 2021 and we’re hoping not to be thinkkng about on Valentine’s Day in 2022.
