Owner Kelvin Slater said he wanted an upbeat, fun outdoor space where customers can have adult beverages and socialize while taking the three skylines of Atlanta: one for Buckhead, one for Midtown and one for Downtown.
Skyline Park sits on top of Ponce City Market in Atlanta’s Old Fourth Ward neighborhood. It’s an area that has been rising in popularity over the last few years thanks to the development of The Beltline.
Skyline Park features an 18-hole mini-golf course, a three-story slide, carnival games similar to Coney Island and the Heege Tower, which guests can ride in to see an amazing 360-degree panoramic view of Atlanta.
Of course, food is also available. Skyline Park offers lots of boardwalk-style fare such as salted soft pretzels, hot dogs (frankfurters), short rib sandwiches, smoked buffalo chicken sandwiches, hot and spicy mixed nuts and something called a Walking Taco, which is a portable snack with braised beef, fries and guacamole all mixed together in a pouch.
If you get thirsty, there’s also a beer garden where they serve craft brews, custom boozy cocktails as well as wine and champagne.
“We were inspired by the 1920s amusement park that was here,” Slater told Thrillist. “This is what you see of a modern version of that. We wanted to kind of bring that back to life.”
The amusement park operated in the location where the Ponce City Market sits today until it closed in the 1920s and the Sears, Roebuck and Co. built its regional headquarters there. Later, the City of Atlanta purchased the Sears, Roebuck building and used it as City Hall East.
The City of Atlanta sold the property to Jamestown, a private equity firm, in 2011. It was subsequently redeveloped into the Ponce City Market, which officially opened its doors in August of 2014.
“Skyline Park is something you can only find here in Atlanta,” Slater told Thrillist. “You cannot find this anywhere else in the U.S.”
