Georgia Dome
The Georgia Dome is the world’s largest cable-supported domed stadium. It
offers fans a unique and spectacular venue, large enough to host political
conventions, major concerts, even the Super Bowl. Even with 71,250 permanent
seating, the Dome maintains an intimate feel due to its extra-ordinary
architectural planning. The Teflon/fiberglass roof gives a sense of closure,
while allowing in sunlight for natural illumination. Home to the Atlanta
Falcons, the Georgia Dome is far more than just a football stadium. MGR is
the food service management company for the Dome as well as the neighboring
Georgia World Congress Center. It operates and manages hundreds of
concessions including table service restaurants in both facilities.

Challenge: Still using the initial DOS based POS system installed
when it opened, the system had become unreliable. It could not handle credit
card operations or interface with newer back office inventory systems. The
Falcons’ new ownership was emphasizing better service and value for the
fans, especially season ticket holders on the Club Level. MGR had the task
of implementing a system that was economical while providing those features
needed to improve the fan experience.
Solution: Having successfully implemented the Micros 9700 system
at the GWCC next door, it became extremely cost effective to leverage that
technology investment to enhance POS operations at the Georgia Dome. The
first phase was to implement Micros Keyboard Workstations at the Club Level
concessions, providing enhanced credit card and gift card features.
Results: Accepting credit cards in the concessions at the Club
Level greatly increased sales and average purchases by customers.
Integration of back office inventory also helps control costs. The next
phases will expand the system to improve the experience of the average fan
as well as the season ticket holder at every game. |
