Bell's Food Stores

Bell's Food Stores is a 6-store independent grocer chain, based in Athens, GA.

Challenge: The Lexington store was built new this year to cater to the growth in that area. An older 4-lane store was closed and replaced with an 8-lane store in a higher-growth location.

Solution: Bell's replaced legacy NCR 2127 equipment in all of their stores with state of the art IBM technology, in order to become current with new technologies affecting credit card payments and new bar codes in the grocery industry.

Results: Customer throughput increased significantly in their stores with the IBM system, most notably through a high speed DSL connection to MDI's financial switch. Their customers now enjoy a 2-second response on credit/debit/EBT transactions compared to  15-30 seconds on the old dial-up system.
